Land Rover Scrappage Scheme
In the Budget on Wednesday 22 April 2009, Chancellor Alistair Darling announced the introduction of a Government Scrappage Scheme. Land Rover welcomes this initiative and is doing everything it can to make things as easy as possible for customers to take advantage of it.
The exact details of the scheme are still being developed, in the meantime, you will find a summary of the current Government Scrappage proposal below.

Information for Land Rover Customers
Once your car has been collected it will be delivered to a Cartakeback Authorised Treatment Facility where a DVLA Certificate of Destruction will be issued. This will effectively remove your car from the DVLA vehicle registration database so that you are not at risk to continuous registration penalties. All scrap cars which are treated by Cartakeback are de-polluted and recycled in accordance with the government target of 85%.
In order to qualify for the scheme, it is expected that the old vehicle to be scrapped must:
- be a car or light van with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3,500 kg,
- have been first registered in the UK on or before 31st August 1999,
- have either a V5C registration document (logbook) in your name at a UK address,
- have been registered in your name for at least 12 months,
- have a current MOT test certificate or one which expired no earlier than 14 days before the date of contract of the new vehicle,
- have a valid tax disc at the time of order,
- not have any outstanding finance, and
- not be an insurance write-off.
It is expected that the new vehicle purchased as part of the scheme must be:
- a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kg,
- purchased from a participating dealer,
- purchased on or after 18th May 2009,
- to UK specification,
- declared new at first registration in the UK with no former keepers, and
- registered to the same registered keeper as the old vehicle.
The dealer will make all of the arrangements for your old vehicle to be disposed of and recycled.
The scrappage scheme will run from the middle of May until the end of February 2010 however funds are limited so motorists are encouraged to act quickly.
